Futurit: Unique Material from Maroš Schmidt Collection

Collector, curator, historian and design expert Maroš Schmidt, who leads the Slovak Design Museum in Bratislava, presented a selection of his private collection of unique Futurit material. This colored phenol-formaldehyde polycondensate (bakelite) enchanted both designers and consumers in the first half of the 20th century. In 1918, company Gummon bought a license to produce bakelite in Bratislava under the patronage of Professor Backerland from Bakelit Geschellschaft Berlin. Until the 1950s, Futurit was used to produce various consumer products.
